Last week a group of Laxton Junior School pupils enjoyed a visit to the Great Hall at Oundle School. Years four, five and six brass, percussion and woodwind musicians went along to see and hear The Royal Marines band.

The pupils took great delight as this also provided an opportunity for them to spot some past Laxton Junior School pupils playing in the CCF band alongside the Royal Marines. The diversity of different types of music played offered pupils an insight into music at Oundle School and encouraged aspiration in this very rewarding area of the curriculum. The children particularly enjoyed marches to ‘I feel good’ and the drumming corps, especially when Mrs Hudson was asked to join them. The pupils liked this event so much that they were still practising hand movements for days afterwards. Mrs Hudson commented that it was a ‘truly memorable event which the pupils have spoken passionately about’.
