It is my very great pleasure to welcome you to Laxton Junior School, an independent day school for children aged 4 to 11 in the heart of Oundle town and an intrinsic part of Oundle School.
We are, first and foremost, an incredibly happy school, which places children’s learning and wellbeing at the heart of all we do. Children learn best when they feel cared for, secure and valued as an individual and we consider ourselves privileged to be able to create this environment for all our pupils. We care deeply about the children entrusted to us and believe that every child is capable of making exceptional progress throughout their time at LJS.
Five core values sit at the heart of an LJS education: Care, a Love of Learning, Opportunity, Community and Quality. These resonate throughout everything we do and develop in our children not just the qualities they will need to succeed and thrive in all aspects of their future lives, but a deep-seated happiness that will ensure their experiences here at LJS are treasured and never forgotten.
With around 260 pupils, we are a school small enough for everyone to know and look out for each other, but big enough to have great reach across all aspects of our curriculum and beyond. We are proud of the high academic standard of our children, with the vast majority moving up to Oundle School at the end of Year Six. More than this, though, we wholeheartedly believe that the development of each child is about more than classroom achievements. Our talented staff are passionate about working with children and through an inspiring programme of digital literacy, trips and residentials, educational visitors, extra-curricular activities, sporting fixtures, music tuition, charitable fundraising, leadership opportunities and dramatic performances, an education at Laxton Junior School turns out children who are open-minded and well-rounded young people, ready to embrace life beyond Year Six.
It is our responsibility to nurture and guide our children as they embrace and interact with their education. We create a culture of aspiration, enabling our children to become life-long learners well prepared for senior school, and of kindness, ensuring our children interact positively with those around them, working and learning collaboratively with others. It is important that we build confidence in our children and empower them to approach the unknown with self-belief and positivity, believing in themselves and what they are capable of. We aim to inspire and nurture a strong sense of resilience in our children, so that the many challenges that unavoidably lie ahead for each of them can be faced with a relentless determination to succeed.
Like all schools, Laxton Junior School is best seen and experienced if it is to be believed. I would be delighted to show you around our school, introduce you to our extraordinary children and the staff who work so hard to provide them with an education of the highest class, and discuss how we can provide the best possible start to your child’s schooling. This can be through a personal visit, or through an Open Morning. Our next Open Mornings are Friday 8th May (bank holiday) and Friday 9th October.
