Home ● Who we are ● Senior Leadership Team
I am responsible for the overall happiness and success of our school community. Through the interactions I have with the children, families and staff, I provide rigorous support to everyone at Laxton Junior School so that they feel empowered to achieve to the very best of their abilities. I set, also, our school’s strategic direction, mapping out how we wish to improve in all that we do, and ensuring that LJS remains one of the very best providers of independent education in the country.
I am responsible for the day-to-day running of our school, where the wellbeing of our community is at the centre of my role. This includes leading our approach to safeguarding and child protection, behaviour and anti-bullying, health and safety, supporting staff wellbeing and promoting pupil-voice, and the organisation of duties, cover and events.
I am responsible for supporting prospective parents with registrations and admissions, and providing guidance to our new families to ensure a smooth and happy start to their time at LJS. I also lead the school’s support staff and coordinate our provision with operational departments across The Corporation of Oundle School.
I am responsible for all the music that takes place across our school. This includes the delivery of the music curriculum; leading the Visiting Music Teacher team; organising rehearsals, assemblies, concerts and performances for our ensembles, choirs and orchestras; and ensuring that our children are well prepared for their music exams and auditions.
I am responsible for all academic learning that takes place at our school. Through the strategic and practical approach to teaching, learning and assessment, I ensure that our staff are empowered to deliver excellent lessons, tailored to the specific needs of each child such that they are able to make the best possible progress across the curriculum. Preparing our children and their families for the academic requirements of entry into their senior school of choice is also part of my remit.
I am responsible for our children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as well as their families and their teachers. From both an academic and pastoral perspective, I ensure that all members of this community feel properly supported and cared for, providing a happy and safe platform from which the children within these year groups are able to make excellent progress in all aspects of school life.
I am responsible for the wellbeing of all our children. Through our PSHE and Mindfulness curriculums, and weekly assembly programme, I ensure that we approach the development of a positive wellbeing proactively such that children build the personal qualities necessary to cope with the many challenges they face. I also coordinate our Wellbeing Team who respond to any concerns we might have about individual children and ensure they receive the tailored support they need.
