We are thrilled to announce that Laxton Junior School has been named a Trinity Champion Centre for 2025–2026 for our fantastic music provision. This recognition by Trinity College London celebrates our school’s excellence in teaching and delivering our music programme. It underlines LJS’ commitment to a warm, inclusive, child-centred approach where every pupil has the opportunity to explore creative expression through music. As a Champion Centre, we join a select group of schools recognised for their outstanding performing arts programmes and their impact on learners. We look forward to a year of creative showcases and collaboration, inspiring all our pupils to shine on stage and beyond.

Our specialist music curriculum delivery provides the foundation for this recognition. Every child at LJS learns an instrument from Year 2 (and 80% of pupils take extra lessons) and all our children have the opportunity to participate in our extra-curricular choirs, orchestras and ensembles. This past academic year, we have had 194 instrumental lessons delivered per week, in addition to our core music lessons. We also have a very active performance calendar: from our weekly singing assemblies that bring the school community together through song, to our seasonal Summer and Winter concerts at the Great Hall.

We are all especially proud that music at LJS helps to nurture each child’s confidence and creativity. Nina Haynes, Head of Music, says:

“Being named a Trinity Champion Centre validates the excellence of our teaching, opportunities, facilities, and our broad extra-curricular programme.”

We look forward to seeing what the upcoming academic year brings!
