Last term, our pupils completed their sponsored bleep tests in PE lessons, as part of their fundraising efforts for Burghley House’s charity; Oundle Mencap Holidays.

Each year group was challenged at a level appropriate for their age and ability and they participated enthusiastically and competitively.

The year group results are as follows.

Reception   - 11490m

Year 1      - 2953m

Year 2      - 24405m

Year 3      - 12105m

Year 4      - 17185m

Year 5      - 16470m

Year 6      - 20870m

In total, the children managed to cover an amazing 132,060m. This is the equivalent of 20 laps of the outskirts of Oundle, or just 4 miles short of the journey from Oundle to Sheringham that Year 6 made for their Sports Tour two weeks ago!

Oundle Mencap Holidays is a charity that Burghley has supported for about 5 years and many former LJS pupils volunteer there every year. The organisation runs a residential summer holiday and a long weekend camping trip for children and young adults with learning disabilities. Every year, 40 children and 25 young adults have the opportunity to try new activities, make new friends, enjoy their independence and, most importantly, have lots of FUN! In turn, this gives their families and carers a chance to relax and recharge. Oundle Mencap Holidays is run and staffed entirely by volunteers and relies on donations to continue to run each year.

Burghley’s Head Girl and Boy, Jessica and Teddy said:

“We’re super proud of everybody’s hard work in raising money for a great charity!”

As a result of their fundraising efforts, Burghley House exceeded their target of £600, raising a current total of £635! The JustGiving link is still open to those who still wish to donate:

Many thanks to all the pupils who took part and their friends and family who supported them. Well done Burghley!
