For World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March Laxton Junior School was buzzing with excitement as the theme ‘Who is your Hero?’ generated much debate. Pupils read about and shared ‘their heroes’ which included book characters, authors and also real life heroes, all of which were suggested and hotly debated.

The day started with members of staff, reading from a book of their choice to small groups of children in all corners of the school. Whilst visiting to listen to each story the pupils clutched quiz sheets on which they recorded answers to clues. The aim of the day was to establish each staff member’s literary hero. It was truly heart-warming to see! The pupils were utterly convinced of their conclusions and the process of deduction was often hilarious! The quiz entertained one and all, and saw the Lilford House pupils winning with the most sheets handed in and the most correct matches.

Headteacher at Laxton Junior School Mark Potter commented ‘the pupils had great fun learning intriguing facts about literary heroes in a different context to a traditional learning environment.’
