Speaking and listening skills are vital to a child’s intellectual and social development. At Laxton Junior School we encourage the development of an extensive range of speaking and listening, role-play and drama activities.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Infant department, role-play and drama is integrated within the whole curriculum to encourage imagination and plot development. All infants are given the opportunity to participate in the Christmas Nativity performance.
The Juniors are taught drama as a separate subject and the children are offered a wide range of extra activities, such as the House Speech and Drama competition, theatre visits, class assemblies and school productions. Pupils are encouraged to use a range of dramatic forms to express feelings and ideas both verbally and non-verbally. Our children are encouraged to appreciate drama both as participants and observers.
