Last term, our Year 5 children took on an exciting fundraising challenge in support of our whole‑school charity, Tasaaga Primary School in Uganda. Working in small groups, they were responsible for planning and running their own stall at our Winter Fete. From developing original ideas to creating the resources they needed, the children collaborated brilliantly. They applied entrepreneurial thinking to design profit‑making activities and, on the day of the event, confidently promoted their fundraising enterprises to our Fete visitors. Creativity really was on show with face painting, sporty challenges, homemade items and lucky dips all contributing to the £445 total funds raised for the charity. What was even more significant though, was seeing the children grow in confidence over the course of the challenge as they collaborated to effectively problem solve. We’re excited to see them progress even further in their next Infinitas challenge!
According to the World Economic Forum, 65% of children entering primary school today will work in jobs that don’t yet exist. By 2030, 85% of job success will depend on soft skills like creativity, teamwork and resilience and no longer on technical knowledge. Employers rank collaboration and communication in the top three most demanded skills. Children who practise collaboration and teamwork become confident, effective problem solvers. Creativity is now listed by the World Economic Forum as a top future skill across all professions. Project based, hands on experiential opportunities prepare children to apply what they know beyond the classroom. This is why, at Laxton Junior School, we dedicate curriculum time to our Infinitas programme, which facilitates experiences for children to explore the world in connected, meaningful ways, linking subjects, ideas and skills to bring learning to life.
Infinitas – Not just ‘another subject’ but a skills-based adventure in learning.
