A huge well done to Year 5 pupil Lara, who impressed the judges with her winning entry in the Open Learning Partnership Creative Writing Competition. Competing against pupils from other schools in the partnership, all of our Year 5 children rose to the challenge with enthusiasm and creativity.

Children were tasked with producing a piece of writing inspired by the short film The Wish Granter . Lara chose to explore the wide range of emotions experienced by the film’s protagonist, crafting a thoughtful and expressive response that truly stood out.

Congratulations also to Guy, Thea, James, Imogen and Felicity, who all reached the final six and a special mention goes to Felicity and Imogen, who were awarded ‘Best in School’ for their entries.

A fantastic achievement from everyone involved, Laxton Junior School were proud to see such talent and imagination on display.

What is joy? The Wish Granter spiralled into thought. He wondered if he had ever felt it. His parents leaving him the burden of wish granting was all he had ever known. The more he contemplated, the more he realised what he was missing out on. Imagine a life without the feeling of a warm bubble bath filling up the tub or the soft white snow squishing under your feet or the sweet scent of flowers blooming when spring comes. He thought about his empty world without any human relationships – no love, no laughter, no friends, no joy.
