We are thrilled to announce that our Year 6 pupils have achieved an outstanding victory at the Peterborough Drama Festival, proudly bringing home the King Charles Cup for Choral Speaking.
The Peterborough Drama Festival returned earlier this month to showcase an exceptional range of talent through choral speaking performances, acting, prose reading, verse speaking, duo acting, group acting and Shakespeare. Held over two days, the event saw more than 90 performers take part in individual syllabus classes covering a wide range of dramatic arts and disciplines, alongside school groups who participated in both prose reading and choral speaking showcases.
This long‑established festival has been running in the city for over 70 years, and continues to promote confidence, creativity and performance skills for children and young people across Peterborough and the wider region. It features a diverse programme including choral speaking, drama, storytelling and verse speaking welcoming entries from schools, theatre groups and individual performers.
Professional adjudicators, affiliated with the British and International Federation of Festivals, praised the high standard of performances across the weekend, noting pupils’ strong expression, clarity and imaginative presentation skills.
Against this vibrant and competitive backdrop, our Year 6 pupils delivered an exceptional choral speaking performance. Their confidence, expressive delivery and teamwork truly shone, earning them the King Charles Cup: a prestigious award presented to the top-performing Year 6 group in the choral speaking category.
Head of Drama, Rachel Hamilton-Charlton has praised the pupils not only for their success on stage, but for the hard work, cooperation and enthusiasm shown throughout their rehearsals. Their dedication has clearly paid off, and this award is a testament to their commitment and creativity. We look ahead now to their May production of Matilda the Musical, which they will be performing at our very own Stahl Theatre.
We are incredibly proud of every one of them – well done, Year 6!
