The Great Hall was alive with rhythm, harmony and house spirit last week as pupils from across the school took to the stage for the much‑anticipated House Music Competition. The annual event, a favourite in the school calendar, once again showcased the remarkable musical talent, teamwork and confidence of LJS pupils.
In front of friends and family, the competition brought together children from Year 4 to Year 6 who had passed the first stage of auditions earlier in the month. In fact our Head of Music, Miss Nina Haynes listened to 128 auditions with over 90% of children from these year groups. From impressive vocal performances to lively instrumentals, the standard this year was exceptionally high. Pupils demonstrated not only their developing musicianship but also their dedication, creativity and courage.
Family and friends were treated to a diverse programme of music. Children performed everything from classical pieces and folk tunes to upbeat contemporary favourites. The atmosphere was warm and encouraging, with pupils enthusiastically supporting their peers and celebrating every performance.
Our official adjudicator, the Director of Music from Oundle School, Mr Richard Dawson, praised the pupils for their musicality, stage presence and commitment. He also highlighted the evident hard work that had taken place during rehearsals ‘Events like this are a celebration of music making’ the children were complimented on their sense of professionalism.
Head of Music, Miss Haynes, commented:
“The House Music Competition is such a special event for our school. It gives every child the opportunity to shine, try something new and experience the joy of performing. We are incredibly proud of all our pupils for their enthusiasm and achievement.”
With more community concerts on our calendar, there is plenty more opportunity for our children to perform and we look forward to seeing them continue to shine.
