During the Michaelmas term, our pupils participated in the BEBRAS Challenge, organised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a national competition aimed at developing computational thinking skills. Each participant has 45 minutes to tackle a series of interactive tasks, designed to encourage logical thinking and problem-solving skills appropriate for their age group. The challenge is conducted online, and tasks are marked automatically by a competition system. The tasks are designed to allow every student the opportunity to showcase their potential, whether they excel in maths or computing or just enjoy the challenge.
Children at Laxton Junior School have timetabled Computing lessons every week from Reception all the way through to Year 6, with LJS’s very own Head of Computing, Mr Fraser Harper.
Mr Harper
“Every year group achieved scores above the national average and several pupils earned gold certificates, placing them in the top 10% nationally. A particular congratulations goes to our Year 6 pupils, who scored an impressive 13 points above the national average, with six pupils achieving gold certificates—an exceptional achievement given they were competing against both Year 6 and Year 7 pupils.”
