Casper writes: on Wednesday 12th February, we played in the annual Laxton Junior School Football Festival. The competing teams were Kings Ely, Witham hall, The Peterborough School, Wellingborough and Laxton Junior.

The first match was against a strong Witham Hall team. We started off a bit nervously but we soon got into stride, zipping the ball around the pitch and it wasn’t long before we broke the deadlock. After a flowing move starting from Seb, the ball slipped through to Josh who found the top corner. The second goal quickly followed after another impressive passing move finished off neatly by Billy.

The second match was a tense affair. In the first half defences were definitely on top with some superb tackles by Angus and Ollie. The game was heading for a goalless draw but with resilience and determination, Milo twisted and turned in the box and slammed the ball into the bottom corner with almost the last kick.

A tricky game against Kings Ely led to our first loss of the day and we kicked off our final match, against Wellingborough, knowing nothing less than a victory would do. We started strong, full of confidence and playing as a team. After some Barcelona style passing moves we made the breakthrough with Josh finishing nicely. A lapse in defence saw Wellingborough get back into the game but our resilience showed again and the lively Josh was fouled in the box and Billy dispatched the penalty superbly.

We had done all we could and now we just needed to find out whether results had gone our way for us to win the tournament. Witham Hall defeated Kings Ely in their last game which meant Witham and LJS were joint top on 16 points but we were crowned Champions as we had beat them 2-0. Well done, team; a great performance by everyone!

Willa writes: in the Netball, we played our first match against Stamford school; we tried really hard and won 7-2 with some great shooting and fast passing. We shook hands and then got ready to play the second match. The next match was against Witham Hall, they were very good but we still played well, despite losing 2-7. We had a break while other schools played and Miss Danby gave us some useful tips to confuse other players and improve our footwork.

Next, we played Wellingborough, they were also very good, they were great with interceptions but we still scored some goals, it was a close match with a final score of 6-10 to Wellingborough. LJS played Kings Ely next; we had played them 2 weeks ago and lost but we were sure we would win today and the final score was 7-2 to Laxton, with every player on the court giving their all. Our last match was against Wisbech, we made some great passes but unfortunately we didn’t win. We had some fantastic performances, with everyone trying their best, working hard and learning lots along the way.
