A huge congratulations to our Under 11 Boys Cricket team, who were crowned champions at the IAPS U11 Cricket Tournament hosted at Oundle School, after going unbeaten throughout an outstanding day of cricket.
The boys had been eagerly anticipating the tournament, and it proved to be a perfect finale for those in Year 6 during their final term at Laxton Junior School, creating memories that will last a lifetime. What a fantastic day for Quentin (captain), Seth, Seb M, Seb B, Will, Momo, Henry, Joshua and Elias. We are all very proud of you!
The team has benefitted greatly from regular winter training sessions at Oundle School and has been fortunate to work with a range of high‑quality coaches from both Laxton Junior School and Oundle School. The side was led and supported on the day by Mr Larkin, whose guidance proved invaluable.
Reflecting on the achievement, Mr Larkin said:
“I couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them. The day started brilliantly and just got better and better, with the boys taking every piece of advice and executing it so well. They were a real credit to the school, their behaviour was impeccable, they listened carefully and kept improving throughout the day. Their performance was simply outstanding. There have been many great days at Laxton Junior School, but this has to be right up there.”
Laxton Junior began the tournament in emphatic fashion, recording convincing pool‑stage victories over Ratcliffe, Beachborough Prep and Wolverhampton. These impressive performances secured a semi‑final place against Repton, where the boys again showed determination, resilience and teamwork to reach the final.
As the day wore on, matches became increasingly tight, setting the scene for a thrilling final against Winchester House. In a nail‑biting finish, Winchester House needed just nine runs from the final over. Demonstrating remarkable composure under pressure, Sebastian M bowled a cool and controlled final over to seal victory and secure the title.
Earlier in the day, the boys had racked up a serious amount of runs whilst a balanced bowling attack, combining both spin and pace, played a key role in the team’s success throughout the tournament.
A fantastic achievement by all involved. Well done to the players and coaching staff on a truly memorable triumph for Laxton Junior School.
Our Head, Mrs Lydia Waller absolutely loved watching the boys play in their pool matches and made some last minute adjustments to her diary to make sure she watched the final!
‘I felt such pride watching the boys play in the cricket final. They played with real heart, lifting one another at every moment and showing what it truly means to be a team. Their determination, kindness towards each other and quiet confidence under pressure led to a very well-deserved win and made it a very special performance.’
