At Laxton Junior School we partake in a variety of local exhibitions and competitions. Annually we join in ‘The Big Draw’ which is a global art exhibition. Local primary and secondary schools produce an exhibition in our local church, St Peter’s, under the same title but with work in an assortment of media. The exhibition is open for all to view.
The children participate in a variety of local Art competitions throughout the year. These have included, amongst others: Waitrose – design a bag, Oundle Veterinary linked with the Oundle Festival of Literature, the Rotary Club’s 1st World War Art and the Oundle Chronicle Summer Exhibition, ‘Favourite Views of Oundle’.
Every year our Form Four children take part in a Candlemas celebration, also held in St Peter’s Church, and many of the primary schools in the locality are involved. The children produce artwork to take with them to reflect the theme of ‘Light’.
We are extremely fortunate to have the Yarrow Gallery in Oundle and the children visit the exhibitions to inspire their artwork or Clubs. They have also visited Peterborough Museum and Burghley House to undertake art workshops and private tours.
In the years that Oundle held a Carnival there was a Carnival Club at Laxton Junior, run by willing parent volunteers, where the children designed and produced their own float for the parade.
