Pastoral
Laxton Junior comprises the seven years from Reception Class to Year 6 and prides itself on providing a happy and purposeful atmosphere in which to grow up. A tiered pastoral system enables children to flourish in a safe and caring environment. In addition to mixing with their own peer groups, children also benefit from their involvement in a traditional house system, with all its opportunities for relationships to develop across the full age range. Inter-House competition in a variety of sports and activities provides a healthy focus, where not only winning is congratulated, but the importance of 'taking part' and trying one's best is actively encouraged and celebrated.
School & House Structure
The House system also provides opportunities for discussion of the personal, health and social issues of school life. Discipline is promoted through sensitive discussion, where respect for oneself, others and our shared environment, is positively encouraged. Great care is taken to help the children recognise that everybody has strengths and weaknesses and that, whilst success is to be applauded, disappointment should be regarded as an important learning experience.
Reporting and Parent Conferences
Parent conferences are held twice a year, where each childs progress is discussed in detail. In addition, written academic reports are completed three times a year. Parents are encouraged to approach staff if they have any concerns or issues and a very helpful parents’ association helps to maintain strong communication links. The school is proud of its excellent communication with parents and is pro-active in its sharing of information with them.
