Pre-school

  • Registration. Registration may occur anytime after birth. The first 40 registrations per year group are guaranteed to be offered a place. The registration fee is non-returnable.
  • Waiting List. If there are already 40 registrations in the required year group, a waiting list is started. Entry onto this list is by a reduced fee, as there is no guarantee of a place. The fee is non-returnable. If a place does become available, the difference between the waiting list and registration fee is due.
  • Enrolment. Approx 12-18 months before the Reception class September start date, enrolment is offered. If accepted a deposit is due, that will be returned after your child leaves the school. However, if between enrolment and start date the child is withdrawn, the deposit is forfeited.
  • Visits. Three pre-school visits are arranged before admission. In the very rare case that Laxton Junior School is deemed the wrong school for the child by the staff, we reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a place. If this occurs, all fees/deposits paid will be fully refunded.

Post pre-school

  • Registration. Registration may occur anytime after birth. There is no guarantee that a place will be available for registrations post the Reception September intake. The registration fee is non-returnable.
  • Waiting List. If there are no places available in the required year group at the time of registration, a waiting list is started. Entry onto this list is by a reduced fee, as there is no guarantee of a place. The fee is non-returnable. If a place does become available, the difference between the waiting list and registration fee is due.
  • Enrolment. If a place is offered, enrolment is required. This includes a deposit that will be returned after your child leaves the school. However, if between enrolment and start date the child is withdrawn, the deposit is forfeited.
  • Visits. All children will be required to visit the school on two occasions. The first will be a form taster day, joining in with the class activities and lunch. If your child is invited to be assessed, registration is required, if not already in place. The second visit is to assess the child’s academic ability.
  • Assessment. The main assessment day will be near the end of the Easter Quarter. All children registered for September entry will attend this session.
    • a) KS1. The assessment will be on a school day. The Head of Infants and at least one other member of staff will conduct the assessments. As the children are still young, these will be relaxed and include time for play and other activities as well.
    • b) KS2. The assessment will be on a Saturday morning. A member of the Senior Management Team will conduct the assessment, assisted by as many other members of staff as necessary.
    • c) Mid Academic entry. If entry is required other than at the beginning of the academic year, visits and assessments will be held intermittently during the year.
  • Offers. The Head will meet to discuss the results, preferably face to face, otherwise by telephone. Once an offer has been made, the Registrar will ensure all necessary documentation is sent.
